Do you want to make an email list? Good! There is all this hype at the moment about social media. And, why not? Social media can send a ton of traffic to you. But what do business owners do with this traffic? You got it, it turns into an email list. Building an email list is STILL one of the smartest things you can do to start — and grow — your business. Period.
Why Do Email List Building?
There are many reasons to build a list of targeted subscribers. One of the primary ones being because people don’t usually buy the first time they land on your website or offer.
So when you can capture their email address through a lead capture page, you can continue to market to them. On average, people need to see your offer 5-7 times before they buy.
Here are some other facts:
- 81 percent of US online shoppers are more likely to make additional purchases, either online or in a shop, as a consequence of emails based on previous shopping behaviors and preferences.
- 72% of customers say that email is their preferred conduit of communication with firms they do business with. 61% say they prefer to receive promotional emails each week and 28% want them even more often.
- According to the findings of The Relevancy Group, US advertising executives think that email drives the same amount of revenue as their display, website, and websites advertising efforts.
However, the data aside… The question is, how do you begin building a list?
Getting Started with List Building
When you want to build an email list, the first thing you need is very good email marketing software. And at the moment, after carefully considering each email marketing service provider, I can confidently say that I really like AWeber.
In my experience, there are two different types of email software. Software that makes things complicated and software which makes things easy. AWeber makes things simple. Especially in case, you would like to automate your email marketing.
Plus, you can try AWeber for free!
I’ve been using AWeber in my business for 10 years, when I setup lead capture page systems for customers, they too use AWeber. I believe it’s a fantastic product, especially for bloggers, smaller businesses, internet business owners, affiliate marketers and much more.
How to Do Email List Building
If you have an online business, you must have an email list building strategy. It’s the most instant way to communicate with your customers. Email list building is the process of building a list of prospective customers to whom you can email information about your products. The larger your customer email list, the more prospective sales you can achieve.
The list building process involves setting up a system to capture the names and email addresses of people who are interested in your products, services, niche topic and much more. So, how can you capture these details?
List Building Steps
Below are the basic steps of list building. If you have questions about list building or need help incorporating list building into your business, contact me.
Create a Lead Capture Page
This one-page website has a special form on it where visitors can enter their name and email address. In return, the visitor receives a special, free report (or something else) which contains information that they are looking for or will find useful.
When visitors come to your squeeze page, (another name for lead capture page), they can only do two things – either sign up to receive the free report (in return for their details) or click away from the site.
Visitors who arrive at your squeeze page (another name for lead capture page), read the details of your free offer, and if they wish to have it, then enter their details on the form. As soon as they have done this, they will be presented with a thank you page. This page thanks them for signing up and gives them access to the free offer.
Additionally, if you’re doing double opt-in, the thank you page, instead of giving them immediate access to the free product, asks them to click a link in an email which has been sent to their address. Once they do that, then they will gain access to the free offer. At the same time, the name and address of that visitor are added to the online marketer’s list, with an autoresponder service.
NOTE: If you need help creating a lead capture page, I do offer ready-made email marketing packages that include a lead capture page, lead magnet, and pre-written autoresponder messages. Alternatively, if you don’t see the package you’re looking for, I also offer custom email marketing packages.

Offer Free Giveaways
Simply providing a range of free gifts or special offers for the viewers to choose from, on a website, costs much less than offline forms and pamphlets. You can offer various free items like free eBooks, free software, trial versions of programs, free games, and much more, and you ask them to opt-in to receive your emails and promotional materials in return.
However, be mindful of the quality of your product or service. If you give something of very little or no benefit, your product will be regarded as the same.

Design a Subscription Sign up Form
When visitors have an opt-in sign-up form, the first impression is that you are looking forward to another contact with the visitor. Add your sign up area in a straightforward section of your site; make sure is not interfering, but it moreover extremely evident to anyone which visits your site. This means prospects to your website can sign up to your email mailing list.
Create a Blog
Creating a blog is also another great list building technique, but along with that, you should also post comments to other blogs in your niche. If someone sees your comment and likes what you had to say, they will likely click on your website as long as you include it in your signature. This will again result in targeted traffic and a targeted email list.

By providing valuable information that people are searching for, you can easily build a quality list. These leads are the most targeted leads you can get, as they were already searching for what you offer, and have signed up to get more information from you.
Always supply a link to your website, product, or service in your signature, especially if there are no links in the article itself. Be sure to have a signup form available, so that people can sign up for your list upon being taken to the URL used.
Articles can establish you as an expert in your field, so it’s important to provide quality content that people may not have read before, or can add value to what they’ve already seen.
Start a Free Membership Website
Membership is free, but the only way someone is allowed to access the free content is by signing up for an account, thus allowing you to add him or her to your list and let the up-selling process begin. The key to using this technique is to only up-sell when the time is right. The more quality free content you provide, the more likely that your list will respond when you are selling something even more valuable.
Successful email list building is not as difficult as it seems. It all comes down to research, building trust and crafting the right offers and messages over time. Email senders should be upfront about when they will contact people on their list, and stick with what they say.
